About

When I was 10 years old, my aunt took me with her to her work. At the time she worked as a set designer for the Dutch television. I was blown away by the studios, cameras, the scale models of sets and the cloth department. I decided that I wanted to be a set designer too.

I went to Minerva Academy in Gronigen and after a general year I choose “Scenography” as my main subject. During my studies I did several theatre related projects and internships, but on the side I made a lot of fine art work too.

In February 2006 I graduated from Minerva Academy in Groningen with my video installation “I am”. With this installation I was granted the Minerva Academy Prize for the best student of 2006.

Winning this prize was giving me the confidence I unconsciously had been looking for during my studies in Groningen. I felt the need to artistically develop myself further. So I applied for the Masters study "Scenography" at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and obtained my Master’s degree in Sep. 2007. This study allowed me to develop myself into exciting, unknown territory. Besides the fantastic international mix of students at Saint Martins, for me the high light was my overseas placement in Krakow, Poland where I have allowed to create a theatre performance with local professionals.

After returning to Holland in March 2009, I started to work as an arts teacher at a high school in Amsterdam. I have been living and working there since. I was given the chance to set up a completely new teaching program: instead of teaching the students inside the school building, I take every class on a fieldtrip once a month. These trips have a cultural, artistic or social character.

By teaching this way I want to show the students different ways of living and making a living.

Besides teaching I am taking courses in silkscreen printing and in sculpting. From time to time I do a few freelance projects as well.
